“Local production for local consumption” of aroma fragrance born from the forests of Izu Kogen
When you think of “Kuromoji”, you may be familiar with Japanese sweet toothpicks.
In fact, when you rub the leaves and branches of this Kuromoji, it gives off a very nice citrus scent.
Ancient Aromatherapy of Japan
Before the war, people living here in the Izu Highlands extracted essential oil from the Kuromoji tree and used it as a fragrance in bath salts. It is said to be good for neuralgia, stiff shoulders, lower back pain, and sensitivity to cold. Kuromoji, which has a strong bactericidal effect, is said to have been used as a substitute for a toothbrush during the Edo period. (It is also said to be good for atopic dermatitis and eczema.)
Commercializing rare Japanese aromas
As the postwar period progressed, these Kuromoji were forgotten from the memories of the people of Izu. In this current era, Hanafubuki has attempted to extract essential oil from the Kuromoji tree again and succeeded in reproducing it. We have produced the following Kuromoji oil products on our own. It takes a lot of time to extract, so it cannot be said to be a very cheap product, but in this day and age where artificial fragrances are overflowing, we definitely recommend Kuromoji Oil, a natural fragrance.
